Emily Gavlick

Welcome Winter Sunset

My Vision

In the next five years, I will earn my Doctorate of Physical Therapy and establish myself as a knowledgeable role model for clients, patients, and the general public.

My Mission Statement

My mission is to, primarily, earn a doctorate in physical therapy. While my intention is to attend graduate school within the next two years, I realize that this is dependent on acceptance into a program, and will apply each year as long as it takes. Not only will I be applying at several in-state programs, but also at graduate schools in Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. I want to utilize my desire to help people and my determination to be an expert in my field to help people with various physical disorders. I want to assist others in achieving their optimal physical fitness, or at least ensure their highest possible level of functioning. The idea of being able to help people in this way, restoring them to a higher, healthier level of physical capability, is my ideal career. I have the necessary organization, patience, and drive to achieve these goals. I also understand and look forward to the additional requirements that such a position entails.

To be an effective physical therapist, my work does not end with a degree. I want to increase my knowledge and experience related to the field by doing regular research each month and placing myself in new situations with patients and colleagues at my two jobs. Working at both Siskin and Benchmark facilities, I will participate in or observe patients with a disability I have not seen before at least once each week. This will allow me to have a large base from which to draw while making decisions and planning client care. I also intend to establish myself as a positive role model for my patients and everyone else, because I understand the motivational benefits - not to mention the personal benefits - such a decision leads to. Therefore, I will make sure that I not only meet but exceed the ACSM guidelines for physical fitness, eat a nutritious diet, never pick up smoking, and drink alcohol with moderation and responsibility.
